Dear Open Door Youth Supporters:
After much soul searching, we have decided to not hold this year’s Inner-City Soiree, scheduled to be held October 15, 2015. The Soiree Committee has decided that the time, effort, and money we were putting into the Inner-City Soiree would be put to much better use in the Open Door Youth Gang Alternatives (ODYGA) after school program. The children are our top priority; by giving them choices, we can show them that there are many options to life other than gang life. Our goal is to help them make better decisions when approached by gangs for recruitment and to shown them that the life skills they learn at ODYGA can help them to live a righteous life.
We still need your help! Open Door is also working hard in the Park Hill and Five Points neighborhoods with their new program – POTS (Part of the Solution). As you know, the gang violence in both of those neighborhoods is crippling those communities and we are making a real difference with our POTS Program. There was a shooting last week and another one a few nights ago, and we really need to concentrate on helping these neighborhoods.
PLEASE REMEMBER: Denver enjoys a very high standard of living (including high property values) because we do not have the gang problems that other major metropolitan cities have. HOWEVER, WE STILL HAVE A GANG PROBLEM AND IF WE DON’T ADDRESS IT HEAD ON, RIGHT NOW, AT THIS TIME, IT WILL GET WORSE.
We want you to be part of the solution as we continue to move forward into the next thirty years. Please consider a monthly donation of $25, $50 or $100. That is one of the most effective ways you can help ODGYA throughout the year. Simply click the donate button below and make sure and check the box next to donation amount that says Make This Recurring (Monthly). Or if you would like to make a one-time contribution of $125 (the price of the ticket to the soiree), $250, $500, $1000 just click on the donate button below and choose your amount.
As always, thank you for your continued support. We appreciate all of our donors, supporters and volunteers and wouldn’t be in business for the last 30 years without you.
